After reading Disney’s $1 Billion Bet on a Magical Wristband by Cliff Kuang, I thought about the idea of frictionless user experience. In other words, if technology can be wrapped in some ways that prevents users from constantly noticing they are using new devices would diminish all sorts of discomforts. Moreover, medical technologies like MRI, therapy tracker can really take advantage of this idea in creating treatments that patients can participate without having to be reminded that they are being recorded or examined constantly.

I came across this device called Spire Wearables a few days ago because my friend was designing a heartrate tracker that can help SAD (seasonal affective disorder) patients in tracking and adjusting their breathing or mood. After watching the video for Spire, I noticed the device itself is a bulky rectangular shaped clipper that could snitch to your belt or clothes. However, I felt like this kind of device should’ve been designed towards the goal of invisible not the other way around. So, I’ve decided to redesign Spire Wearables in a way that gives the users a frictionless experience.

Brainstorming Sketches:

Main features:

  • Thin

  • Invisible experience

  • soft on the touch

  • stable, secure

  • flexible
